Literature in Translation: The Barefoot Queen

Ildefonso Falcones has been called “Spain’s new Dan Brown.” With over 7 million copies sold, his previous work has been translated into more than 40 languages worldwide. We’re thrilled to share The Barefoot Queen with you.

From the bustle of Seville to the theatres of Madrid, The Barefoot Queen is an unforgettable historical fresco filled with characters that live, suffer, and fight for the lives of those they love, and for the freedom they can’t live without.

One of our favorite treats is when our subrights department brings in books that’ve been translated into other languages. We get to see how publishers in other countries “translate” the cover – usually, the designs are very different and always fascinating to compare.

For fun: here’s The Barefoot Queen in its U.K. (left) and Spainish (right) editions!
