What I'm Reading: Julia Pierpont and Manjit Thapp

New York-based author Julia Pierpont and United Kingdom-based illustrator Manjit Thapp met with us to chat about what they’re reading right now, their favorite books, and the illustrated work they created together: The Little Book of Feminist Saints.

The Little Book of Feminist Saints is an inspiring, beautifully illustrated collection that pays homage to exceptional women throughout history and around the world. Each feature in the book includes a short and exciting biography by Pierpont and one of Thapp’s stunning portraits. From Maya Angelou to Rachel Carson, Shirley Chisholm to Frida Kahlo, and Gloria Steinem to Malala Yousafzai, these secular female “saints” have at least one thing in common: they are all champions of strength and progress.

The creators sat down with us to talk a little bit about their favorite books to revisit, and what new books they’ve been reading lately. Their recommendations run from beloved period classics to surprisingly suspenseful collections they discovered quite by accident.
