Stand-up comedian, actress, self-proclaimed Blaria (that’s Black Daria), and author of the hysterically funny book You Can’t Touch My Hair: And Other Things I Still Have to Explain, Phoebe Robinson admits that she’s seen Great Expectations in bookstores and been like: hard pass.
But when we asked the Dope Queen to take ten minutes to read Charles Dickens’ second novel and tell us what it was all about, she took a deep level of analysis, finding allusions to sex positivity and birth control, as well as pop culture icons like Mike Tyson and Transparent.
Our expectations were…great and while the end result is hilarious, this book report probably wouldn’t earn Phoebe an “A” in school. Watch below.
Read Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, or any of his other superb novels (A Tale of Two Cities! A Christmas Carol!) and see if you can do better. Or guarantee yourself some laughs with Phoebe Robinson’s You Can’t Touch My Hair: And Other Things I Still Have to Explain, on sale now.
