The Night Circus and Books to Understand America
July 2, 2018 - Abbe and Emma discuss reads that remind them of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and pick a few books to help readers understand America today.
In the 5th episode of the Read it Forward podcast, co-hosts Emma and Abbe do a Read-Alike for a fan favorite: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. They select six books that give them the same kind of feels as The Night Circus—a little magical realism, a few supernatural elements and a dash of historical fiction.
Then, in honor of the 4th of July, Abbe and Emma discuss 8 books that are helping them understand America today. Aside from the political landscape, there is a confluence of issues that are taking America by storm right now—an increase in poverty, the loss of the middle class and the myth of the American Dream, and a terrible housing crisis, among other things. These 8 books can help readers understand and contextualize what is happening in the United States today and how the country got to where it is today.
I just loved her writing style and I felt I needed to buy everything she'd ever written.
Abbe invites Amy Kaufman, author of Bachelor Nation, into the studio to gush about their favorite guilty pleasure, the *dramatic* ending of the last season of The Bachelor and Becca as The Bachelorette. In her book, Amy reveals a lot of juicy dirt about the making of the show and some serious behind-the-scenes info about the couples that come out of the show.
Then, Amy shares with Emma and Abbe the author she thinks everyone should read and how this author inspired Amy’s own writing.
See below for the books mentioned during this episode and don’t forget to leave a review on Apple podcasts!
I'd like updates on books, giveaways, special promotions, and more from Read It Forward and from Penguin Random House.
