Issa Rae (@issarae) is the ultimate #GirlBoss, writing her own YouTube show, memoir, and television show based around her misadventures as an awkward black girl. While writing and starring in her HBO show, Insecure, may take up a lot of her time, she still manages to keep up with her reading. Here’s a look inside the literary life of Issa Rae.

Posing with the paperback version of her book, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, Issa takes time out to thank fans for reading it.

It’s always exciting when a book you’ve been waiting for finally comes out, especially when your funny friend is the author. Here, Issa shares her excitement over Luvvie Ajayi’s book, I’m Judging You.

Issa is a busy lady, so it comes as no surprise that she reads on different platforms while on-the-go. Here, she’s reading The Turner House by Angela Flournoy on her phone while in Martha’s Vineyard. We love that she tagged a friend who might like the book as well!

I typically prefer non-fiction, BUT THIS BOOK, THOUGH?! Wow. #Favorites #WorldBookDay

Issa thought she was on the late train to reading The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz when she posted this picture, but we believe it’s never too late to read a good book.

We love seeing our favorite books in the wild, and Issa was exited to get a picture of her own book playing with others. Here it is pictured with Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay and Adventures in Making a Fake Old Book by Erika Swyler, a sampler about the making of the hand-bound, vintage-looking submission copy of The Book of Speculation.
