Summer reading: some of my high school students surely dread it, but I look forward to it as much as I look forward to turning off the early-morning alarm that I wake to during the school year. Here’s what I have stacked up on my coffee table, waiting for me to finish reading student essays and take a summer break.

My new book, Lady Be Good, is a fun summer read set in the 1950s that follows a young woman named Kitty Tesler who has her high society life turned upside-down by a riveting musician. Pick up a copy, then click here for a book club guide that offers reader questions, cocktail recipes and delicious snacks inspired by the novel. I hope these questions will enrich your reading experience, and the recipes will make you feel like you’re sitting by the Tropicana by Kitty’s side.
