What I’m Reading: Marie Lu

Marie Lu, author of Warcross, tells us all about her favorite reads.

Recently, we trained our cameras on Marie Lu (the author of the new young adult sci-fi adventure novel Warcross, as well as the bestselling novel The Young Elites and the Legend trilogy) and asked her about her favorite books. Early in her career, Lu was a video game artist, but now that she’s a full-time writer, she’s based her latest work on video games. In her most recent novel, the titular Warcross is a video game that millions of people play every day, and some players illegally bet on the outcomes. Emika Chen is a hacker and bounty hunter who tries to track down those wagerers and make them pay, but when she hacks into the opening game of the international championships, she accidentally glitches herself and gets caught in the act. Instead of getting busted, however, she gets an offer she can’t refuse from the game’s creator. What will happen when she uncovers something disastrous that will affect the entire Warcross gaming community?

We asked the sci-fi and fantasy writer about what books she’s reading right now and her favorite fantasy novels to re-read and recommend!

MARIE LU is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling series The Young Elites, as well as the blockbuster bestselling Legend series. She lives in Los Angeles with one husband, one Chihuahua mix, and one Pembroke Welsh corgi.
