  • I tried to enter the contest, but I see no listing in the state file for those of us living in Canada. I used ‘address line 2’ to list my province: Ontario, but could not erase the mistaken ‘Ohio’ in the state space. Can you please correct this? Thanks.

  • Ihave Noname

It would be cool if Read if Forward could do multiple giveaways for single books all at once. I’ve been entering these contests for the better part of a year and I never win. With smaller giveaways, one book per, maybe more people would be lured to the website. At this point I prefer Goodreads, and even Librarything, to RiF.

    • americanmade

Each giveaway has at least 50-100 winners per week. You can read this in their sweepstakes rules at the bottom of the page. There is a link to let you know how many winners for that particular giveaway. I know it’s hard to win, but you just have to keep entering, and your name will hit one day.

      • Ihave Noname

Thanks for your reply, americanmade, and I get what you’re saying. And yet, I win (relatively often) from other bookish websites that are more popular than RIF, have fewer prizes per giveaway, and presumably a lot more people entering them (GR giveaways regularly have thousands). I can’t help feeling that either it’s all rigged, the number of prizes available is actually less than what’s stated, or RIF should change how the prizes are given out. Some websites, like Librarything, have an algorithm in place that makes you more likely to win if you’ve entered their giveaways very often and keep losing. After that, reading and reviewing the won book will make you more likely to win again in the future, but not reviewing your win will mean you’ll get passed over. Obviously the goal of the giveaways will vary from site to site, as RIF doesn’t seem to be after reviews and their prizes aren’t always ARCs/galleys as with other sites, but nevertheless entering RIF giveaways feels like a wasted effort each time. After all, who really wants a free computer wallpaper as a consolation prize for not winning books? But yeah, I’ll still enter because the books are always good… so I’ll stop whining now! LOL

It’s ok, I’ve never won a book on LT and I’ve been a member for 3 years. I have even left reviews and I’ve complained to LT and I still don’t win on there. I just gave up and closed my account. I’ve won about 6 books total on RIF, but that was last year and the year before. I haven’t won anything yet this year. I think there are a lot more people entering on here than you think. It was much easier to win a giveaway a couple years ago than it is now. It seems like everyone is getting in on the free book thing now and some don’t even read the books. They are mostly sold online to resell. I’m a hardcore reader and have been doing these giveaways for 7 years before it was popular and no one knew about it. It’s like that now on GR to. I used to win at least 3-6 books a night, but now I’m lucky to get 3-6 weekly. Things have definitely changed that’s for sure!
