Nicola Yoon (@nicolayoon) skyrocketed to the top of the New York Times bestseller list with her young adult novels, Everything, Everything and The Sun is Also a Star. When Nicola’s not busy writing, she’s in reader mode, perpetually getting book mail from her favorite authors and showing them off to her Instagram followers. Here, a roundup of some of our favorite book-related posts from Nicola’s feed.
I’m an INSANELY HUGE fan of @sabaatahir’s EMBER series and I really can’t wait for #AReaperAtTheGates. Also, these new covers are beyond beautiful and I love love love what Sabaa had to say about them: “🔥🔥🔥I’ve always been honest with you guys. My true, weird self. So I’m going to be honest now. I was so excited about these cover reveals. But. 🔥🔥🔥Charlottesville happened & I sat like so many of us, disgusted and enraged as Nazis marched. As they murdered people. 🔥🔥🔥 I’d love to ignore it. I can’t afford to. I’m brown. If neo-Nazis become normalized, what happens to my children? Family? Friends? I can’t stop thinking about it. So I’m not going to pretend, ok? Forgive me. I absolutely adore these covers, but I can’t just say “whee, lookie!” I’m too heartsick. 🔥🔥🔥 I gotta keep writing. Keep fighting. I don’t know what else to say. Gonna follow my mama’s advice & speak my heart. Here goes: 🔥🔥🔥 For the beautiful brown kids who deserve to see themselves on books: You’re heroes too. And these covers are for you. 🔥🔥🔥” Link to the reveal is in my bio. You’ll find the summary and pub date there. #EmberQuartet #AnEmberInTheAshes #ATorchAgainstTheNight #AReaperAtTheGates
As an author of young adult novels, it comes as no surprise that Nicola is a fan of other novels in the genre, including Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes series. Nicola was pumped for the third book in the series—as well as new cover reveals—and included Sabba’s reflections on current events: “For the beautiful brown kids who deserve to see themselves on books: You’re heroes too. And these covers are for you.”

There’s no denying that Wonder Woman was a huge hit this summer, and Nicola was definitely a fan. Here she is battling it out with fellow bestselling author Adam Silvera in front of the cover of Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo.
Nicola had quite a TBR pile ready for her summer vacation, including The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton, Dear Martin by Nic Stone, and They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. We love that she paired it with a Lego Parisian restaurant. C’est magnifique!
Can you tell by the absolutely enormous smile on my face how happy I am to meet @stephenchbosky?! The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is one of my absolute favorite books of all time. I got to do two panels with him about books & movies. He was gracious and funny and insightful and inspiring. #thebookcon
Fans of The Perks of Being a Wallflower will love this picture of its author, Stephen Chbosky, with Nicola. He’s even holding a copy of her book, Everything, Everything.
We love how excited Nicola always gets for book mail. Here she paired Flame in the Mist by Renée Ahdieh and Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart with super cute reading glasses that are about to be put to work.
In case it wasn’t abundantly evident, Nicola is super supportive of her fellow authors. Not only did she write a cover blurb for Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner, she also proudly posted a selfie with the book to celebrate its publishing day.
Like us, Nicola can’t contain her excitement when she finds some of her favorites in the wild. Pictured here, Mosquitoland by David Arnold, Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee, and Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed.
We absolutely adore this picture of Nicola’s daughter dressed as Queen Elsa while reading a collection of Frozen-related books. No such thing as starting readers too early!
Meeting our favorite authors IRL is always an occasion to celebrate. Here’s Nicola meeting one of her favorites, V. E. Schwab, and getting her copy of A Darker Shade of Magic signed.
Nicola takes a #bookshelfie with her awesome floating bookshelf. Among her levitating hardbacks, we spy I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson, All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven, and Another Day by David Levithan.
We had no idea Nicola was a Gilmore Girls fan, but it comes as no surprise that she stopped at Stars Hollow Books on her visit around the Warner Bros. lot. Wonder if she found any good books inside?
Adult coloring books have been a craze for years, and Nicola managed to find one based off a beloved classic, The Little Prince. It looks like this was a perfect outlet for her creative energy.
Who doesn’t love a good reading snack? While we’ll take cookies in any form, the fact that these feature the cover of Nicola’s newest book, The Sun is Also a Star, makes them almost too cute too eat.
Getting a copy of a favorite author’s latest novel is always great. But Sabaa Tahir went above and beyond, sending Nicola a copy of her book A Torch Against the Night—and a pair of Emberling socks for her very own.
